Trip Therapy: Psilocybin and Dysthymia

Questions about Dysthymia and psilocybin therapy

Today I received the following three questions via email and I want to share the answers through the forum. Maybe it can help more people this way.

  1. Has it already been investigated whether psilocybin therapy has an influence on a dysthymic disorder?
  2. I am now taking a low dose of anti-depressants, do I have to reduce these first before I do a session with you? If so, is this supervised?
  3. What is the background of your therapists? I don't see any information about the people who work for you, what kind of accreditation do they have, can they be 'trusted' during such a session?

Answer 1:

Currently, there are no ongoing studies specifically mentioning dysthymia and the studies being done are on depression in general. As you can see via the link below, the drugs that stimulate serotonin and dopamine release or block reuptake are widely used, just like with other forms of depression and anxiety.

Investigate Dystymia

What those drugs do, according to various studies, psilocybin can often do better in a single or just a few sessions.

Answer 2:

Antidepressants and psychedelics should not be taken at the same time. It is best to consult with the prescribing doctor and ask if and how you can reduce the medication. According to the law, we are not allowed to advise whether and which medication you should take.

Answer 3:

There is no accreditation yet within psychedelic therapy. You therefore have to find confidence with a provider yourself, for example by reading reviews.

In trip therapy, the focus is on neurochemistry and talk therapy takes second place, hence the background biochemistry.
