Choosing between MDMA, psilocybin or LSD as a therapeutic tool

Psychedelic therapy will be in the spotlight in 2022. Due to various documentaries and news reports, there is also more interest from people who do not feel helped by regular health care. We are also increasingly noticing that psychologists let slip between nose and lips that trip therapy might mean something for treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, PTSD and persistent addiction. The public is influenced by the media and the idea is now mainly that MDMA is good for PTSD and trauma, psilocybin for depression and LSD for addictions. It's really not that simple.

MDMA in PTSD and trauma

Since the beginning of this century, studies have slowly started to pick up again and with MDMA, the studies are mainly focused on trauma and PTSD. These studies are all completed very positively with often high success percentages.

MDMA therefore has the image of working well with PTSD and trauma. Other uses include couples therapy and the treatment of social anxiety. The disadvantage of MDMA is that it is an illegal substance and that it cannot be purchased through legal channels. Furthermore, MDMA can cause a dip during the week after the session. MDMA sessions can only take place if a customer owns MDMA and has had it tested for purity.

LSD in addictions

LSD is known to work well in treating addictions. There are not many studies on LSD as a therapeutic agent because LSD is not favored by researchers. This is because the therapeutic potential is just as great or perhaps slightly lower than with psilocybin. There are also more risks of negative effects. This is partly due to the fact that strong LSD trips take a long time and the risk of anxiety is higher.

We therefore advise people who are starting with psychedelics to ignore LSD for a while. Try psilocybin first before taking LSD. By doing a psilocybin session you can get used to the psychedelic state and you know that there is always life after the trip. This can be useful if you are doing a trip with a long duration such as with LSD. If you have experience and you want to use the extended session, you can find more information via the link.

Psilocybin in depression

Psilocybin is particularly known to be effective in depression. The results of studies are very good and confirm the image of psilocybin. The beauty of psilocybin is that it is multifunctional and can be used to treat any of the aforementioned psychedelics, even trauma and PTSD.

The number of studies on psilocybin has been on the rise for years, even though it is not a patented drug. This fact clearly shows that the potency of psilocybin is enormous. The currently ongoing studies use psilocybin in:

  • Alcoholism (AUD, alcohol use disorder)
  • Smoking addiction
  • Opioid addiction
  • Major depression (depressive disorder Major)
  • Treatment resistant depression
  • Anxiety complaints
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Body Dysmorphic Disorders (BDD)
  • Anorexia
  • Alzheimer's
  • Parkinson's
  • Migraine
  • Cluster headache

Psilocybin can therefore be used for many purposes and treatments. Even with PTSD and trauma, psilocybin can help very well, however, preparation and guidance must be good. This is because psilocybin can generate images related to the trauma and can have a negative effect on the trauma in unaccompanied circumstances. Out of caution from some authorities/supervisors, it is then recommended to work with MDMA instead of psilocybin. The advantage of psilocybin is that it can be supplied legally and you do not have to buy it yourself. Also, just like LSD, psilocybin does not deplete your own stores of serotonin, so that there is no dip in the mood.
