Trip therapy: Treatment of alcohol addiction

Treatment alcohol addiction

The regular treatment to combat alcohol addiction often works poorly or short-term. Psychedelic therapy often works much better to treat alcoholism. It may sound a bit strange to use psychedelics, which are seen as drugs, to solve a drug addiction (alcohol is a hard drug).

Psilocybin against alcohol and drugs!

To properly explain how psychedelics and in particular psilocybin (and therefore psilocin) can help against addictions, you can read the following Watch TEDx video. This makes it clear that the "drugs" psilocybin can help against the addiction of other drugs.

How Can Psychedelics Help You Quit Alcohol?

1: Neurogenesis

Because of the effect of the psychedelic trip, a new configuration will arise in the brain. This is because stimulating the 5HT2a receptor causes more BDNF to be released. BDNF is a hormone that repairs nerve cells and allows new connections to form, which we call neurogenesis. The new configuration of the brain also means that new pathways are created in the brain. These new paths also provide new choices such as quitting addictions.

2: Serotonin against dopamine

The most addictive substances and activities usually affect the dopamine receptor. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter involved in ego stroking. Achieving personal goals in particular is rewarded with dopamine. It gives energy and a very good feeling. The disadvantage, however, is that the dopamine high only lasts for a very short time and you want more and more. Drugs such as cocaine, heroin, tobacco and alcohol increase dopamine levels. Eating sugars raise the dopamine level just like cocaine does. Activities such as watching porn, social media, gambling and gaming also increase dopamine. It indirectly ensures that you pay more and more attention to personal goals, which sometimes leads people to loneliness (low serotonin as a result). Loneliness causes depressed feelings and these are then remedied with dopamine-sensitive addictions so that the negative spiral persists.

A high dose of serotonin-like substances such as DMT or psilocin (4-HO-DMT) creates a sense of connection with everything and everyone. From this state, personal goals and ego caresses such as (smoking) addictions seem much less important. From those thoughts, a positive spiral can arise in which shared goals and connections can be considered more important.

3: Ego death

With a high triplevel like triplevel 4 or 5 an ego death can take place. The benefits of getting rid of an addiction lie in the fact that the idea of being an "I" fades away. Without awareness of "I" or the "ego" one can see without self-protection whether the things we do to the body is so good and why it is necessary. Ultimately, our body is the temple of our existence and why would we want to poison it to achieve personal goals or pretend to achieve them? Addictions are cheats to supposedly feel good, but they don't solve underlying problems! During the ego death you may be able to solve those underlying problems since the brain is then ultra connected. Another advantage is that after an ego death you can feel reborn again. As if a new “I” has emerged. A new beginning with healthy choices!

Can we help you with your addiction?

The first step to the solution is to realize and accept that there is an addiction. It's a brave step to come out. Although scary, the reward for courage will come later. Trip therapy is more than just psychedelic therapy

There is much more to benefit from a psychedelic trip if the preparation is right. The preparation of the trip is much more important than what one would expect. The preparation influences the trip and therefore the result.

We believe that a healthy body provides a healthy basis for a good deep trip. We therefore do everything we can to address all facets of existence and that is why we also advise our customers on basic nutrition, exercise and supplements. The whole approach for body and mind ensures the best results in the short and long term. We usually use a schedule for most customers that looks like this:

  1. Registration, neurotransmitter test and intake
  2. Advice on nutrition, exercise and supplements based on point 1
  3. Watch a 2-3 week progression from point 2
  4. An individual psychedelic ceremony (unless a group has additional utility or preference)
  5. Debriefing of the truffle ceremony on the same day
  6. After about 1-2 weeks another debriefing
